For this project I used a picture of a ram for my source, but I added my own details and background for the final print. I had a mountain background that I added grass and rocks to have more details then just the ram. It was a little difficult to show the rams hair in the print because the ere was no shading with the paint. I figured out that I could make little marks that wouldn't b printed to create that feeling of the texture and hair of the ram. I used the position of the ram that was similar to the original picture, but I added my own ideas to make it original.
I did learn some new techniques and processes when creating this project. I had done printmaking a little bit in middle school art, but most of it was simple and didn't require a lot of learning the skills needed like cutting the linoleum of the design and actually printing it. I learned how to cut efficiently using the different sized blades on certain parts. For the details on the horn I used a really small blade but on the outline I could use a larger one. I also learned how to put the print on the paper correctly by flipping it and rubbing in circular motions to get it on the paper without smudging.
This printmaking project was a lot about the things that I like. The North Carolina Tar Heels are my favorite college team and their mascot is a ram. That's what inspired me to choose the ram and I tried to make it look similar to the mascot while still being realistic. I used white ink on light blue paper because those are the main colors of the team and it would make sense. I was able to express my interests through my art and give it my own personal touch.
